Ellanse is a biocompatible dermal filler comprising polycaprolactone (PCL) microspheres (suspended in Carboxymethylcellulose CMC gel carrier). It is designed to address signs of facial and skin ageing by providing immediate volume and stimulating the body’s natural production of collagen. This allows for sustained improvements in skin texture and elasticity and natural-looking skin rejuvenation.
There are four main types of Ellanse, each designed to cater to different aesthetic needs and desired durations of effect. The primary types of Ellanse fillers are categorised based on their longevity and specific properties, allowing treatments to be tailored to individual patient requirements.
Ellanse type | Duration | Suitable for |
Ellanse S | ~18 months | Ideal for patients looking for a temporary solution to fine lines and superficial wrinkles. It is suitable for younger patients or those new to dermal fillers who want a less permanent option. |
Ellanse M | ~2 years | Suitable for moderate volume loss and deeper wrinkles. It balances longevity and the ability to adjust treatment as needed, making it a popular choice for many patients. |
Ellanse L | ~3 years | Ideal for those seeking significant volume restoration and long-lasting results. This type is often recommended for older patients or those with more pronounced signs of ageing. |
Ellanse E | ~4 years | Designed for maximum longevity, providing sustained results for patients looking for long-term solutions to facial volume loss and skin laxity. It is ideal for those who prefer fewer treatment sessions over time. |
Ellanse S and M are approved in Singapore. Ellanse L and E are not approved in Singapore.
Ellanse works via a dual-action mechanism. It acts as a scaffold to support the skin, instantly restoring volume and contour. The gel fills in wrinkles and fine lines, providing an immediate cosmetic enhancement.
The true beauty of Ellanse lies in its ability to stimulate neocollagenesis, which is the process of generating new collagen. As the PCL microspheres are gradually absorbed by the body, they leave behind a framework that encourages collagen synthesis. This process not only enhances skin elasticity and firmness but also improves overall skin quality over time.
Ellanse is a registered medical device (implant) in Singapore and needs to be injected by a medical professional with advanced postgraduate training. Not every doctor is credentialed to inject Ellanse- Ellanse needs to be injected by an aesthetic doctor (with a Certificate of Competency for filler injection), plastic surgeon or dermatologist. Ideally, the doctor should have underwent advanced hands in training in Ellanse injection and perform a high volume of Ellanse cases regularly.
Ellanse is ideal for individuals looking to restore a more youthful appearance by addressing age-related volume loss and skin laxity. The ideal client is someone in the mid 30s to 50s with facial volume loss and early skin laxity, who has tried hyaluronic acid gel dermal fillers before and liked the result and is looking for a longer lasting treatment.
Ellanse is contraindicated for individuals who are pregnant or who have active facial/ skin infections.
Ellanse is versatile and can address various cosmetic concerns related to ageing, volume loss, and facial contours. The common facial areas treated with Ellanse include:
Treatment areas (from top to bottom)- forehead, temples, brows, cheeks, nasolabial folds, chin, jawline
Ellanse is NOT recommended for the treatment of the: lips, undereye and nose.
This is due to the high risk of nodule formation in these areas.
For the lips and nose- a hyaluronic acid dermal filler is recommended
For the undereye- a purified collagen filler is preferred
