The MOXI laser is a non-ablative fractional laser developed by Sciton, Inc. It operates at the 1927 nm wavelength and targets the epidermis and superficial dermis (the top layer of the skin). The MOXI laser addresses various skin concerns and is safe for all skin types.
MOXI Laser works by creating microscopic controlled injury in the skin, which stimulates the body’s natural healing processes. This stimulates collagen production, resulting in a smoother, brighter, and firmer complexion. MOXI laser is versatile, and the treatment can be personalised to suit each person’s skin type and condition.
MOXI laser is non-ablative, targeting the treatment area without causing excessive thermal injury or burns. It functions at a wavelength of 1927nm and delivers micro-pulses of energy into the epidermis and dermis. Controlled laser delivery stimulates the body’s natural healing processes and increases collagen and elastin production, improving skin texture and tone.
MOXI laser is versatile, with three levels of intensity, each suited for different clients looking for specific results. Depending on your skin condition and ability to take downtime, Dr Hoe will customise your treatment based on these three levels of intensity:
Skin condition | Description |
Pigmentation issues | Treats age spots, freckles, and melasma to create a more even skin tone. |
Sun damage | Addresses discolouration and texture irregularities caused by prolonged sun exposure. |
Fine lines and wrinkles | Reduces the appearance of early signs of ageing, promoting a youthful look. |
Uneven skin tone | Improves skin smoothness and firmness for a more refined appearance. |
Enlarged pores | Minimises the appearance of enlarged pores, leading to a smoother complexion. |
Dr Hoe Ying Min believes in holistic and bespoke treatment for all her patients. Prior to treatment, your skin will be examined and analysed. A personalised plan will be created to suit your skin condition and expectations. Next, your skin will be cleansed, and topical anaesthetic will be applied.
During the laser treatment, you may experience a warm prickling sensation; cold air is delivered onto the skin to ensure comfort. MOXI laser treatment is a relatively quick process, lasting approximately 20-30 minutes. Post-laser recovery serums containing stem cell-derived exosomes and growth factors will be applied, and Dermalux LED therapy for 15-20 minutes to reduce redness and accelerate healing.
After that, expect 2-3 days of skin redness, followed by another 2-3 days of skin renewal with a sandpapery texture and gentle flaking. Light makeup is allowed; clients can return to office work and indoor activities immediately. It is advised to avoid direct sun exposure or contamination for a week. Skincare that may cause irritation, such as Vitamin C, retinol, and AHA/BHAs, should be stopped for a week.
Subsequently, as your skin starts to heal, you will experience:
Treatment | Description | Effects |

Hydrafacial + MOXI Laser | Hydrafacial cleanses and extracts dead skin and impurities and infuses hydrating and nourishing serums- paving the way for the MOXI Laser to work its magic. | Enhanced laser results with Hydrafacial prior to MOXI Laser. |
MOXI + Skinbooster (e.g. Rejuran, JuveLook) | The rejuvenating effects of MOXI Laser are enhanced with the addition of skinbooster injections, containing products that hydrate and nourish the skin. | Synergistic effects of MOXI Laser and skinboosters to address skin concerns and rapidly deliver optimal results. |
MOXI targets the water in the skin; hence, it is “colour blind” and safe for all skin types, including darker skin types, compared to other laser treatments with a higher risk of complications. Potential risks after MOXI Laser include skin infection, herpes reactivation, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and melasma flare. Diligent post-laser skincare using stem cell-derived growth factors and exosomes helps post-laser skin recover quickly and lowers the risk of complications. You will be given detailed instructions on how to optimise post-laser skincare.
MOXI Laser is an all-rounder laser that can treat all skin types all year round and address a wide range of skin concerns.
Designed as an “antiageing” laser for “prejuvenation”, the MOXI Laser can address signs of skin ageing such as fine lines, dull skin, and wrinkles. It is recommended to start treatment early (the late 20s to early 30s) to delay the onset of signs of ageing. MOXI Laser can resurface the skin at higher settings to smooth out deep wrinkles, acne scars and open pores.
MOXI Laser treatments rejuvenate the skin and reverse sun damage and pigmentation. They are also safe for melasma, improving melasma with a low risk of a flare-up. MOXI Laser has become the laser of choice for many doctors when treating melasma!
PicoLasers, especially PicoSure Laser, still have a role to play in the treatment plan. PicoSure laser 755nm Alexandrite picosecond laser specifically targets the pigment in the skin, making it the optimal choice for treating pigmentation, such as lentigo and freckles, as well as tattoo removal. While the rejuvenating effects of PicoSure are significantly less than MOXI Laser, the downtime of PicoSure is much less (1-2 days) than MOXI Laser (5-7 days), making it more popular amongst working clients who cannot afford the downtime.
Both lasers have advantages and limitations. Dr Hoe will formulate a personalised treatment plan that delivers optimal results with minimal downtime, using both MOXI Laser and PicoSure laser appropriately.
MOXI Laser was not developed with the treatment of Melasma in mind, so its effectiveness in treating Melasma came as a pleasant surprise to many doctors. MOXI Laser is the laser of choice for many doctors to treat melasma, especially epidermal (surface) melasma. Each MOXI Laser treatment improves melasma by approximately 20-30%, with 70-80% improvement after three treatments.
There is a low risk of melasma flare-up, as the laser energy is primarily delivered above the Dermo-Epidermal Junction; hence, there is minimal stimulation of melanocytes (pigment-producing cells). Apart from MOXI laser treatments, medical treatment and UV avoidance are important for achieving good outcomes.
MOXI Laser is fairly new, launched in the USA in 2022 and arrived in Singapore in 2023. However, it is already making waves due to the support of celebrities and prominent doctors – notably, Kim Kardashian, who posted on her social media her transformative results after a BBL + MOXI Laser combo, sharing that she had paid US $1400 (not sponsored!) to do the BBL MOXI Laser combo with Beverley Hills Plastic Surgeon Dr Ghavami, who went on to describe the BBL and MOXI Laser as “the closest thing we have to a fountain of youth right now”.
Bay Aesthetics Clinic proudly calls itself “the home of MOXI Laser,” and with good reason. It was amongst the first few providers of MOXI Laser in the Asia Pacific Region, and its doctors have been appointed the trainer and Key Opinion Leader of the BBL HERO + MOXI Laser device in Singapore.
With a high volume of completed patient cases, the doctors of Bay Aesthetics Clinic have refined their laser protocols and settings, adapting the basic factory settings to one suitable for Asian skin. Bay Aesthetics Clinic is also an international training centre for BBL HERO and MOXI Laser, with doctors from across the Asia Pacific flying in to attend hands-on laser workshops and improve their skills.
